Since so many of our alumni are scattered around the country, they are very often unable to take an active role in the everyday functions of the Bishop's Latin School Alumni Association. While of course we would prefer your time and effort, if that is not possible, you can always make a financial contribution to help with the fostering of vocations in the Diocese and keeping the spirit of the Bishop's Latin School alive.
The Bishop's Latin School Alumni Association has to date given or donated over $30,200 to various groups and individuals since our inception. We have given $4,000 awards to various Parish Vocation Councils, who have sponsored events to foster vocations in their parish. We have sponsored a "Seminarian Night" to meet with and discuss the needs of the St. Paul Seminarians on their journey towards the priesthood.
Meet the Seminarians Night at St. Mary of the Mount - 2004
In 2005, the Alumni Association met with Fr. Tom Burke and
Fr. Tom Speracino, Co-Directors of Vocations.
Chairman Tony Fisher and Fr. Tom Burke present the high school affiliates with a small gift at the 2005 luncheon.
Fr Dave Schorr gives the tour of St. Anthony's Chapel at the Vocations Mass, Tour, and luncheon in 2006.
We have helped fund a retreat and dinner for the diaconate candidates this year. Over the years, we awarded over $10,800 to various Catholic high schools in the Diocese of Pittsburgh for tuition assistance for the high school students who were involved in the "High School Affliate Program". These are just a few of the many good works our organization has accomplished under the good name of the Bishop's Latin School Alumni Association.
If you cannot join us as an active alum, and we understand how difficult that can be, please contact our alumni moderator, Fr. Dave Schorr '65, or any other BLS Board Member with your contribution. If you wish, your donation can remain anonymous. Also, when compiling your will, or making your annual tax-deductible contributions, please remember the Latin School Alumni Association. Since the BLS Alumni Association is a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) Corporation, 100 % of your contribution is tax deductible.
If you have any questions, you can contact us by email:
We greatly appreciate your generosity so that we may continue the important work of helping to promote vocation awareness and supporting our seminarians at St. Paul's Seminary, the diaconate candidates, and the high school students interested in the priesthood.
One of our out-of-town alumni, who attended several Masses and dinners, suggested that he would be willing to have a monthly credit card charge donating funds to the BLS Alumni Association. We are investigating this and determining the alumni's interest. Because of the monthly fees and transaction fees, we will need several alumni enrolled in the monthly donation program. Again, all contributions are tax deductible.
